Immortalising a Premiership with Street-Level Legacy
The Brief
A Moment Worth Immortalising
The original Up Up Cronulla mural, depicting Paul Gallen and Andrew Ettingshausen's emotional embrace after the 2016 premiership win, stood as a beloved landmark in the Shire. When it was lost to development in late 2023, the community felt the void. The mission was clear: restore this symbol of triumph and unity to its rightful place.
The Approach
Bringing the Heart Back Home
Recognising the mural's significance, I initiated the project to reinstall it at PointsBet Stadium. Collaborating directly with artist Sid Tapia, we orchestrated the recreation of the iconic image on the stadium's outer wall adjacent to Gate 1. This effort was supported by Shore Hire and the Sharks, ensuring the mural's legacy continued at the club's heart.
The Result
A Legacy Reborn
Unveiled on March 28, 2024, the mural now stands as a testament to the Sharks' historic victory and the community's enduring spirit. It serves as a daily inspiration for players and fans alike, reinforcing the club's identity and the Shire's pride. The project not only restored a piece of art but also reignited the collective memory and passion that define the Sharks' legacy.
